The recording of the international symposium On the Tenets and Pitfalls of Modernity: Architecture and Landscape Architecture is now available.
Held at MAO on 13 October 2026 alongside the exhibition Is Nature Modern?, the symposium brought together Daniel A. Barber, Ana Kučan, Maja Vardjan, Zaš Brezar, and myself to reflect on key concepts and assumptions of modernism in architecture and landscape architecture from the perspective of today’s environmental crisis.
The discussion revisited central modernist ideals, including comfort, economic efficiency, and the energy performance of buildings, and examined how these principles were realised in modern architecture. Particular attention was given to the role of landscape architecture during the modern period, both internationally and in Slovenia, where it emerged as an independent profession in the mid-1970s.
